PlugLoad 7-Outlet Tier-1 Advanced Power Strip

The PlugLoad 7-Outlet Tier 1 Advanced PowerStrip (APS) is an energy-saving surge protector that reduces standby power wasted by TV and PC peripheral electronics.

In addition to saving energy, the APS provides surge protection to safeguard electronics against damaging power surges. It features seven outlets: one Control (TV or computer), two Always-On (game console, DVR, modem, or router), and four Energy-Saving (DVD or Blu-ray player, AV receiver, monitor, or powered speakers).

When a device plugged into the Control Outlet is turned off, the PlugLoad APS detects the drop in energy consumption and then cuts the power to the Energy-Saving Outlets, thus eliminating energy consumption from those peripheral devices. A typical scenario is to have a television connected to the Control Outlet with the sound system and DVD player connected to the Energy-Saving Outlets, so when the television is turned off, all peripheral devices turn off as well. Gaming consoles typically have hard disk drives and should be plugged into an Always-On Outlet.
